Dear Sunrise users,
One last note to let you know that we’re moving on for good to Outlook and shutting down the Sunrise apps on iOS, Android, Mac and Web.
What’s happening?
As of today, your calendar will stop updating and any changes you make to it will not be reflected on any other platform. Tomorrow, you will be logged out of your account. Don’t worry though, all the information held in your calendar will still be available on the original platform you were using (Gmail, iCloud, Outlook, etc.).
What’s next?
This is definitely the end of an era. But more importantly, it’s the beginning of a new one. We’re excited by what’s ahead and we’d love for you to come and join us in our latest adventure. We’ve kept our promise to bring the magic of Sunrise to the Outlook calendar - and the Outlook inbox while we were at it - and we’re only getting started.
To have a look at what we’ve been up to you, check out the latest calendar features we’ve released for Outlook on iOS and Android. You can also download the apps directly and try us out (you can find us here on iOS and there on Android).
This is it
We’d like to extend a final and massive thank you to all of you who’ve supported us along the way. It’s been a hell of a ride. We really hope you enjoyed those years we spent together as much as we did.
With lots of love,
The Sunrise team

As some of you might already know, we were acquired by Microsoft last year and have now moved on to work on Outlook for iOS and Android. Different products, same goal: making your day-to-day life easier and more enjoyable to manage.
The entire Sunrise team is now working side-by-side with the Outlook team and it’s a thrilling moment for us to work on an app of this scale. Unfortunately, as all good stories go, there’s a sad bit to it: we’re not able to support and update Sunrise anymore. No new features. No bug fixes. For us, that’s the definition of a lousy app and it’s not a user experience we want to leave you with. For this reason, we’ll be removing Sunrise from the app stores in the next few days. On August 31st, we’ll officially shut down the app and it will stop working all together.
As heartbreaking as this sounds, we’re hard at work bringing the magic of Sunrise to the Outlook apps, with all your most loved features - interesting calendars, event icons and calendar apps. We’re confident you’ll be able to find our special touch there too.
Whether you decide to follow us to Outlook or not, we couldn’t go without first saying a massive THANK YOU. You’ve been with us all the way and Sunrise wouldn’t have been great without all of you supporting us, sending us feedback, encouraging us to fix bugs and sharing the app with your friends.
Today, we’re taking on a new challenge, helping even more people be more productive on the go. We hope you’ll be there with us too.
With love,
Pierre, Jérémy, Joey, Christophe, Victor, Pierre-Elie, Arnaud, Aurélien, Sébastien, Will, Ari, Alice, Silas, Becca, Marie, Aymeric, Bobby, Thibault, Jean

As you’ve probably noticed, we’ve been off the grid for the past few months. Rest assured, we weren’t out on a very long summer break, we were building something. Something exciting. Something big. Today, it’s time we finally tell you what that something is.

Short answer: It’s way more than a calendar.
Long answer: This is an email app and a calendar app all in one. It lets you easily share files and includes all of your contacts. This is Outlook for iOS and Android. Well, at least the latest version of it.
Since we joined Microsoft at the beginning of the year, we’ve been working increasingly closer with the Outlook team and in particular with the Outlook Mobile team. A few months ago, they asked us to join them in making Outlook for iOS and Android the best productivity apps out there.
Most of you have known us for a while now, and you know how passionate we are about making people’s lives easier and less stressful through beautifully designed apps and well-thought out features. Joining the Outlook Mobile team was our chance to make a difference on a much larger scale, tackling calendar and email all at once, working with people as passionate as we are. It was an offer we couldn’t refuse. We said yes.
We’ve been working for the last few months now with the Outlook team on completely redesigning both their iOS and Android apps with the “Sunrise touch”. Today, we’re sharing our work officially on the Outlook Blog, revealing the iOS app, now available on the App Store, and giving you a glimpse of the Android app, coming soon.
Now here comes the sad news. As the entire team is completely focused on the Outlook for iOS and Android apps, we won’t be updating the Sunrise apps anymore. We won’t lie, it’s tough for us to leave behind the apps we’ve been working on so passionately for the past years. Mid-May, we’ll be removing the app from the different app stores. On August 31st, 2016, we’ll be shutting Sunrise all together.
But then we think about how we are going to be able to bring all of what made Sunrise great to the Outlook Mobile apps. How exciting is that? In the meantime, the Sunrise apps will still be available on their respective app stores.
If you’re thinking about switching, here’s what you should know.
. Some Sunrise features are already present in Outlook for iOS and Android.
You can already connect multiple accounts (Office 365 and Exchange obviously, but also Gmail, iCloud and more) to have a complete overview of what your day looks like. The current calendar section of the app also has the agenda view and the day view as well as the expandable month view we had in Sunrise.
. All the features you love in Sunrise are coming to Outlook soon
We are currently working on integrating all the extra features that made Sunrise so delightful to use in Outlook for iOS and Android. Expect features like Interesting Calendars, Connected Apps and our 3-day view to show up before the end of the year.
. We won’t stop innovating
While building Sunrise, we were always learning from and listening to you to come up with ways to delight you and make you more productive. This isn’t stopping any time soon and we already have quite a few innovative ideas for Outlook.
Whether you’ll be following us at Outlook or not, we want to finish this blog post with a huge thank you. Thank you for being there with us since day one, for pushing us to make a better app, for getting involved and asking questions, for sharing the word around you, for sending us love poems and pictures of our logo around the world. We wouldn’t be here without your support and we wanted to let you know.
We started out as a daily newsletter filled with your agenda 3 years ago. We then grew up into 3 different apps helping millions of users sort out their days. Today, we’re taking on a new challenge, with the goal of helping even more users be more productive on the go, whether it’s through a better calendar or a more seamless email experience. We hope to see you there with us.

You want it all. We get it, we do too! That’s why we think you should have a universally great experience no matter which calendar you come from or which device you are on. Today, you might just be one step closer to this goal.

After developing Sunrise for Android, iOS, and desktop, we’re now welcoming a new member to the Sunrise family. This app fits on your watch and we think it might just change the way you go about your day. Say hello to Sunrise for Apple Watch.

We’re big fans of the productivity app Wunderlist at Sunrise. The main reason is that we like this feeling we get when we check things off our to-do lists. We really do.
We also think the key to be truly productive is to always pair what you need to do with a time when you’ll be doing it. That’s how we came to the idea that matching a to-do app with a calendar was probably a good move. Well idea no more, Wunderlist in Sunrise is now reality!
Ever spent more time scheduling a meeting over email than actually talking over coffee? We definitely have. Have you ever tried doing it on-the-go? We doubt it went very well.
This is the reason why we spent more than a year at Sunrise trying to solve one of the most time-consuming and, let’s say it, just plain boring calendar activity out there: scheduling meetings.
We always believed that there had to be a better way of scheduling 1:1s on mobile, and as your favorite calendar, well, we felt we had to find it. Good news is, we think we figured it out :)
Meet is a keyboard for Android and iOS that lets you select available time slots in your calendar without leaving the app you’re in and send them to anyone through a simple link, even if they don’t use Sunrise.
About a year ago, we introduced “Interesting Calendars”, a hidden gem in your settings to let you stay up to date on the things that matter to you: your favorite sports team, your kids’ school holidays or the phases of the moon.
We didn’t stop there though. Today, we’re adding a whole batch of new calendars that you’re bound to find interesting too.
Your interesting calendars have now been upgraded with the schedules of more than 90,000 programs on 2800 TV channels in 21 countries in North America and Western Europe. This means that you can add the airing time of all your favorites TV shows and series right in your calendars.

To our Android friends,
We are excited to share with you today the newest apps available on Sunrise. Meet Basecamp and Meetup, right inside of your calendar.
Before we get started, make sure you update the app here.
Productivity fan? We are too. With Basecamp now available in Sunrise, you can connect all your projects and to-dos and merge your beloved Basecamp calendar with the rest of your life. It’s that simple.
As you read this post, someone is trying out Sunrise for the very first time. Whether or not they stay with us in the long run pretty much determines how well we’re doing our jobs here.
This is one of our biggest product design challenges here at Sunrise. Designing for millions of people is no easy task and we know we’re bound to lose some people along the way with every decision we make. Unless we resign ourselves to becoming boring or generic, we’ll never make it right for everyone.
We just have to keep trying. So we ask ourselves: how we can create the easiest and most enjoyable time management experience for as many people as possible?
Sunrise was just a daily email when we first started out a couple of years ago.
To our friends and Sunrise users.
Following our recent integration into the great Microsoft family, we have more news to share with you today! Brace yourself, this is going to be exciting.
We have been working hard for the past few weeks and are happy to say that we have finally succeeded in bringing back to life one of the most famous artificial intelligences of all time, a.k.a Clippy.

These last few months have been quite full of excitement and we’ve been keeping busy! We have plenty of surprises coming for you in the coming weeks and are super excited to share them with you soon.
While we put the finishing touches to all of that, we want to share with you today the newest apps available on Sunrise. Meet Basecamp and Meetup, right inside of your calendar.
Before we get started, make sure you get the app here.

You will need to enable push-notifications for this feature to work (open the app to accept them). We think that finding investors is first and foremost about finding great people that truly want the vision you have, as a company, to become a reality. Use Sunrise as your calendar for work and enjoy our amazing design to make your life a little easier everyday.
You can now show the current date as the app icon badge. To enable this option, tap on Settings > Preferences > Badge > Current Date. Unfortunately, we can’t change the entire icon, the iOS platform does not allow us to do this.
Thank you so much for all of your amazing feedback and reviews since our iPad launch in January. We’re working hard to continue to make Sunrise better everyday, with your help!
Thank you for using Sunrise,
Team Sunrise
@sunrise / support@sunrise.am
Users sometimes ask us why we require the user’s Apple ID and password in Sunrise, instead of using the local Calendar API. That’s a great question to ask, and we understand why users don’t want to share their credentials without context. We’ve thought a lot about that.
The two reasons why we are doing this are:
- one, to provide a better user-experience
- two, to offer a Sunrise experience everywhere, on all platforms (including web and Android)
Providing a better user-experience
Being able to access the data from our servers, instead of just client-side, has enabled us to write a better calendar app. We are working hard to make synchronization faster and more reliable, and it enables us to send push notifications or alerts to users without them having to open the app.
And this is just the beginning, a lot of new features that we are working on at Sunrise for the future will rely on our server-side infrastructure.
Sunrise everywhere
The two biggest feature requests we get from users are: “when is Sunrise going to launch on desktop” and “what about Android?”.
We understand our users, they want a unified Sunrise experience everywhere, and so we can’t use a local API for that.
How does it work? Is this secure?
When you type in your iCloud credentials, they are sent to our server only once in a secured way over SSL. Update: since our 2.11 version, we are not sending iCloud credentials to our servers, the app generates the secure token client-side. We use them to generate a secure token from Apple. This secure token is the only thing we store on our servers, we never store your actual iCloud credentials.
What’s next?
In the future, we are thinking about ways to take advantage of the local Calendar API for users who don’t want to share their credentials, we understand their point of view.
We are also hoping that Apple will leverage OAuth to authenticate their calendar API, which will make things easier for everyone. We already support OAuth with Facebook, Google, Twitter, LinkedIn, Foursquare and Producteev. We support OAuth where we can.
We are a team of 7 people building a calendar with love & passion, and unfortunately we can’t always move as fast as we want, but as always, we want to address users’ issues with transparency and openness. We’re listening on @sunrise or support@sunrise.am
Updated (Wed 01/22): Also, if you’ve discovered a security vulnerability in Sunrise, we appreciate your help in disclosing it to us in a responsible manner by using security@sunrise.am
Updated (Thursday 01/29):
We’ve updated the Sunrise app (version 2.11) to never send the Apple credentials to our servers, as suggested by our community. The update is now live.
Security and user’s privacy are very important to us and we are grateful to the community for the suggestions we’ve received on that issue.
– Pierre, CEO
Today, we’re happy to announce our biggest update since we’ve introduced Sunrise for iPhone.
Sunrise is now designed for your iPad, includes a new Week view and adds background updates. You can download the app here.
iPad
We’ve worked hard to bring the best Sunrise experience to your iPad. It’s the most beautiful calendar everywhere now.
We are introducing two new visualisations: Week and Month. They make it easier to make plans from your iPad and navigate in time quickly.

Week View (for iPhone too!)
This new visualisation makes it easier to see free time between events, see your day at-a-glance, or find a time to get dinner with a friend next week.
Tap on the week icon next to the new event button to reveal it. And it works perfectly in portrait mode.
A lot of apps have tried to design a week view before, but we think that you’ll enjoy the design of Sunrise better!

Background Updates
Sunrise will now update in the background (every hour by default), so you won’t need to open Sunrise to get the latest changes. Notifications will always be up to date.
We heard your feedback and we are introducing a new icon that we think you’ll enjoy.

Video
Thank you for using Sunrise! As always, we’d love to hear from you on Twitter – @sunrise – or via the app.
Happy new year!
Today, we are happy to introduce two major milestones for Sunrise: a completely redesigned app for iOS7 and support for iCloud calendars.
A new design for iOS7
At Sunrise, we believe in simplicity and great design. We think iOS7 is a great move forward to focus our app on what matters the most: your calendar.
Our new Icon
We are also introducing a new icon for Sunrise, which represents us better: it’s both simple and beautiful.
iCloud
With Sunrise 2.0, users can now connect their Apple calendars directly. We’ve worked hard to make sure synchronization is fast, and that your data is secure.
We’ll continue to innovate to make your life easier. We have great updates coming in the next months.
Thank you for using Sunrise.
– Sunrise Team
Dear Users,
Good news! Sunrise v1.6 is now available on the App Store! Here’s what’s new.
New way to RSVP
Swipe through your invitations to respond whether you are attending an event or not. You can also quickly ignore events in case you’d like to get a clear overview about which events matters the most.
We created 4 swipe actions to make responding faster and easier.

A short swipe to the right if you're attending the event.

A long swipe to the right if you’re undecided and want to respond “maybe” for that event.

A short swipe to the left if you're declining the event.

A long swipe to the right to ignore the event and remove it from the list. This will not result in a response to the event.
Multiple Alerts
You can now set multiple alarms for events as shown below with up to five alerts attached to an event.
Your feedback is always welcome (support@sunrise.am) and we hope you will enjoy your new calendar that will make your life easier.

Good news! Sunrise v1.4 is now available on the App Store! Here’s what’s new:

Google Maps
Sunrise now integrates with Google Maps directly inside the app.

Jeremy and I started Sunrise a few months with the vision that a better calendar was not just a dream, it’s something we could build as designers.
We could imagine how much a new calendar would improve the life of millions of people everyday. We had to do it – or at least try.
Today, I’m excited to announce an important step for all Sunrise lovers. We’ve secured our first round of funding from investors and angels.
I’m very happy that Mike Hirshland @ Resolute and Rob Go @ NextView Ventures are co-leading our $2.2M round with Jordan Cooper @ Lerer Ventures, Kevin Carter @ SV Angel, Adam Rothenberg & David Tisch @ BoxGroup, Shai Goldman @ 500 Startups and John Maloney @ Terrapin Bale.
We are lucky enough to welcome amazing angels too: Dave Morin (Path), David King (Blippy), Andrew Kortina (Venmo), Adam Nash (LinkedIn), Elliot Shmukler (LinkedIn), Hunter Walk (Youtube), Gustaf Alströmer (Airbnb), Loic Le Meur (Le Web), Bill Lee (Twist) and Adam Mosseri (Facebook).
I want to say a special thanks to the angels that have been supporting us since the beginning of this adventure: Henrik Werdelin (Prehype), Naveen Selvadurai & Tristan Walker (Foursquare), Adam Rothenberg and David Tisch (BoxGroup), Ilan Abehassera (Producteev), Taavet Hinrikus (TransferWise), Sten Tamkivi (Skype), Ott Kaukver (Skype), Julien Genestoux (Superfeedr), Davy Kestens (TwitSpark), Clement Calazot (DocTrackr), Thomas France (Prixing), Fabrice Grinda and Jose Marin.
We’ve picked investors and angels that are passionate about the problem we are solving and deeply believe that design can have a big impact.
Dear users, investors, angels and friends, thanks so much for your support. Let the ride continue.
Update: you can read the blog post from Resolute about their investment in Sunrise.
Today we’re welcoming Stephen Morrison at Sunrise. He’ll be joining our team as a backend engineer focused on building new services for your favorite calendar.

He is thrilled to be joining the Sunrise team as an intern this summer. A couple months ago his interest was piqued in the calendar app space when a couple apps including Sunrise launched attempting to improve the calendar experience on iOS. He was very impressed by the effort that the Sunrise team put into the app to make it extremely intuitive so he was excited to learn they were looking for a summer intern.
Beyond Sunrise, he loves hacking on various side projects, dabbling in Sketch, going on long bike rides, and eating baby carrots by the bag.
Good news! Sunrise v1.2 is now available on the App Store! Here’s what’s new:
Mention your friends/contacts
Quickly invite event attendees via the event title field.
Dots indicator
We added dots when you expand the calendar view to quickly see what days have events and how busy your schedule is.
A light dot means you have between 1 and 3 events.
A dark dot means you have at least 3 events or more on that day.

Offline support
Create events offline without a network connection. Which means no more trouble in the subway or on the plane!
More pictures
We now also load pictures from your local address book.
Too many invites?
Ignore invites by swiping in the invitation view.
Refresh
A refresh button is now available in the invitation view.
Quickly call access
Quick phone call option is now available by swiping if a phone number available.
Bug fixes
Bugs fixes and performance improvements.
Thanks again for your amazing support, keep sending us your feedback at feedback@sunrise.am
Update available on the App Store.
Jeremy
Good news! Sunrise v1.1 is available on the App Store today. Take a look at some of the new features and fixes coming your way.
LinkedIn integration
We added a profile to each of your event invitees so you can learn more about them before the meeting. An easy one tap access to their LinkedIn and Facebook profiles was also added as well as a direct link to their address book entry.

Skip email invitation
Want to add your friends or colleagues to events without feeling like you’re spamming them? You can now add people to your events and get access to their Facebook, LinkedIn, and address book entry without having to “officially” invite them via email.

Notes + Repeating events
We heard you, we noticed many of you were missing two features and here they are. Repeating events and notes are now available when creating a new event under the “More” section at the very bottom.

Thanks again for your amazing support, keep sending us your feedback at feedback@sunrise.am
A calendar first feature is to be reliable.
Today we discovered a serious bug where people who logged in with Google only wouldn’t receive any calendar updates unless they fully quit the app and re-opened it. The app was designed to download new events from the server every time it’s opened, but that didn’t happen in this case.
We wanted to take the opportunity to apologize for the inconvenience encountered, here at Sunrise we take our users’ happiness very seriously.
The latest update is available on the App Store.
Jeremy
Have you ever wondered how to manage events with different time zones in your calendar? Do you find yourself trying to figure out what time it will be in Paris while you’re in New York? Don’t worry, you won’t need a timezone converter!
Sunrise uses the time zone of the event location. You simply need to think in terms of the local time for that event, like everyone does ;-)
The location can include anything such as a neighborhood, city, street or even a restaurant.
Sunrise will adjust the events to your current time zone and keep them up to date. As soon as you step off the plane in Paris for instance, your meetings will be in the right time zone.

Dear users,
You can now find in the AppStore the latest version of Sunrise which includes a signup with Google, which means that you don’t need to use a Facebook account to signup if you download the lastest update.

We know that this has been the #1 feedback since we launched Sunrise a week ago, and the team has been working hard since to ship this quickly.
We’ve also fixed an issue which was affecting our users in Brazil.
You can find the update on the AppStore.
Next version will come in a few weeks with a lot of improvements based on your feedback. Keep it coming at feedback@sunrise.am
Thanks so much for using Sunrise!
We’re really excited to launch our first mobile version of Sunrise today, free in the App Store. Sunrise is a fast and beautiful calendar designed to make your life easier.
When we sat down about three months ago to start designing our product, we looked at the current state of calendars and realized very few exciting things had happened in the last 7 years. We’re setting out to change that, and this release is our first step along the way.
Some of the problems with calendars we heard from users that we tried to solve:
1. “Today’s calendar feels quite stale”: even though everyone knows how to use a calendar, we believed that your calendar could be so much smarter about what’s going on in your life. We added full support of Google Calendar along with Facebook birthdays and events, weather predictions, directions and a better integration about the people you’re going to meet.
2. “My calendar takes forever to synchronize properly”: we worked to make the synchronization experience as smooth and speedy as possible whether you’re using an iPhone 4 or the latest one.
3. “Timezone support is a pain”: we made it super-simple to add events and determine your timezone based on where you actually will meet your friends and contacts.
We’re looking forward to hearing your feedback on our app. Feel free to reach us at jeremy@sunrise.am. You can also watch our video on the homepage www.sunrise.am
A huge thanks to our awesome beta testers, who have given us the solid love that every app needs as it’s being created.
Want the app? Download it for free in the App Store!
At Sunrise, we really love what our friends at Little Printer are building. And we wanted to be part of it. So we are happy to announce that Sunrise is now available for Little Printer.
Each morning, you can now get Sunrise in your hands, delivered right in time by your Little Printer.

And, more one thing, we’ve got a discount code – SUNRISE – for you when buying a Little Printer to get free shipping. Please note that the code is only available 20 times.
Have you ever wondered why you need to manually add events you’re buying tickets for to your calendar? Does it feel like extra-work?
Today, Sunrise is releasing its first integration with Eventbrite.
Sunrise users can now connect their Eventbrite account to get their tickets directly into the daily email. It’s like magic, no action from the user is actually required. Behind the scene, Sunrise is using the Eventbrite API.
Enjoy this tomorrow by connecting your Eventbrite account today from the settings page and then go explore some awesome events near you.

PS: Thanks for everyone at Eventbrite for their support. Special shout to Mitch, Ryan and Thomas!
Today, we are happy to launch a new feature to help making your life a little bit easier: People.
Remember the last time you were trying to know more about the people you’re about to meet in 10 minutes? What company they are working for? Where did they go to school? Or even how they look like?
For every event that involves other people, we’ve designed a private page with all the information you need to know quickly. We’ll be able to find more about everyone current position, previous experiences and education.
To make it easy for you to get to this page, we are appending a link to the description of the event (without modify the description itself). This page will be also very useful for the people meeting with you: they will be able to know more about you (all the information are imported from LinkedIn).
We’ve turned this feature on by default for users who have connected their LinkedIn account with Sunrise, but if you want to disable it, you can change your settings at any time. Let us know what you think!
